Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis show the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior representative said the attack rendered him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
